Aysa X. Fan is a Ph.D. candidate in the DELTA program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, specializing in Educational Data Mining (EDM), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Computer Science Education. Her research, conducted within the Human-centered Educational Data Science (HEDS) Lab, focuses on enhancing programming learning experiences through data-driven insights. Aysa’s work includes investigating large language models for code-tracing question generation and exploring the connections between programming experience and debugging behaviors.
Previously, Aysa gained substantial industry experience as a QA Analyst at Kik Interactive Inc., where she honed her skills in user and product data analysis using SQL and Python. She also served as a Data and Quality Analysis Team Lead at Maluuba, leading major projects in testing documentation and crowdsourcing data management for NLP tasks. In addition, Aysa co-founded and directs the Novel Panda Learning Centre in Canada, where she oversees curriculum design and class instruction.
Aysa holds a Master’s degree in Information and Data Science from UC Berkeley and an Honors Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Financial Maths from the University of Toronto. Experiences & Projects
Aysa has worked on several projects in the past. At Maluuba, Aysa designed a voice-controlled fitness app, M-Fit, and led her Hackathon team to the second place. She proposed the design of a wearable tracker to help monitor the status of depressed patients. Currently, Aysa is working on a collaborative learning project, CSTEPS, at UIUC.
